October is tyre safety month

As October is tyre safety month I wanted to get in touch to share with you our research on how 1.4 million UK drivers are driving with tyres below the legal limit (1.6mm).

This is according to an investigation commissioned by Confused.com across 10 cities in the UK to find out how many motorists are driving with bald tyres. The piece uncovers how one in five (21%) cars (equivalent of 8 million), had at least one tyre with tread below the recommended limit (3mm), and 1.4 million (3%) had at least one tyres below the legal limit (1.6mm).

And further research suggests that the issue could stem from the fact that over half (55%) of motorists don’t know how to check their tyres, and three fifths (61%) don’t know what the minimum legal depth is.
