4 Top Summer Car Maintenance Hacks

Whilst we all know that looking after our cars in winter is super important, few people carry out the same level of rigorous checks on their vehicles in the summer months. Summer can be just as hard on your car as winter but with these top 5 hacks for keeping your car in perfect condition, you’ll breeze through the warmer months this year in style.

  • Check your Wipers

Windscreen wipers can be particularly vulnerable to cracking or splitting in the summer months as the heat can damage the plastic. Check them for any signs of wear and tear and be sure to get them replaced before you get caught in a surprise downpour and realise that they’re not working anymore.

  • Check All Your Fluids and Battery

Whilst the cold weather is known for playing havoc with fluids and batteries, the warmer weather can also be just as damaging. Heat can cause battery fluid to evaporate which can eventually lead to corrosion of your battery. If you haven’t had it checked for a while and you’re concerned, ask a mechanic to take a look before the warm weather picks up.

  • Inspect your Tires

Your tires need checking regularly all year round but especially in summer when you’ll be much more inclined to go on road trips and family days out. Make sure you always nip to the garage to check your tire pressure before setting off on a long trip and remember to always take a look at the spare tire too.

  • Test your Air Con

  1. No one wants to find out that there’s a fault with their air con when it reaches the peak of summer and you need all the cool air you can get. Common problems which can occur when it comes to aircon in the summer months include leakages which need fixing in order for the systems to work properly again.

Keeping your car cool, is vital as is looking after yourself when driving in the warmer months. The little jobs you can keep an eye on yourself with the right tools, why not pick up a metal chest to store your tools away in safely at SGS? Once you’ve done all the necessary mechanical checks on the car remember to always have some water at hand in the car should you start to feel dehydrated and always stop regularly on long journeys in the summer months.
