First thing is first, congratulations on passing your driving test! Now that you’ve done this, it’s time to start looking for a car if you haven’t done this already. There are a number of different things that you’re going to have to consider when looking for a car, and most of them come down to one thing: money. Having a car is going to cost you a lot, so let’s take a look at a few of the considerations that you need to think about.

New Or Used?

First, you need to decide whether you’re going to look at new cars or used cars. This is likely going to depend on the budget that you have set for yourself before you even start looking for a car that fits what you want. Most new drivers aren’t going to be able to afford a new car unless you look into some of the finance options. Not all dealerships offer these, though, so if this is something that you are considering, make sure that you do your research before you begin.

If you’re going to be looking at used cars, these tend to be a lot more affordable. The thing to remember is that just because they are cheaper doesn’t mean they aren’t as good. You can get some awesome cars at great prices if you shop around for a little while and look for the best deal. Don’t make any decisions until you’ve consulted your budget though, because going over here is not something you are aiming for.

Finding The Best Insurance

You’re also going to have to think about how much the insurance on the car is going to be. It’s all well and good actually purchasing the car, but if you can’t afford to insure it, then it’s going to be for nothing. The best thing that we can recommend is when you find a car you think you like, type in the registration number into various insurance providers and find out how much this is going to cost you. Insurance can be extremely expensive for people who have just passed their test because most accidents happen within the first year of driving.

If the price isn’t something that you can afford, you’re going to have to look for a different car. Certain cars are going to be cheaper to insure than others, so look at what kind of cars are the best for a low insurance premium.

Running Costs

But, it’s not just the insurance and the car itself you’re going to have to think about, it’s also the cost of running the car. You’re going to need fuel constantly, if there are any problems with the car, you’ve got to pay to get it fixed, breakdown cover is something you really need and there is a whole host of other costs to consider. It’s not cheap, so you’ve got to work out what the cheapest car for all of this is going to be before you make a purchase.

We hope that you have found this article helpful and now see some of the considerations that you’re going to have to think about when buying your first car after you’ve passed your test.
