Automotive Tech Trends in 2015

It’s almost too hard to keep up with automotive technology these days, as every brand is doing their best to outperform one another. With tech shows such as CES 2015 behind us and with only a few major ones left, perhaps it is time to take a look at the tech that should greatly assist you on your trip, or at least make the experience a lot smoother.

Parking Assist

This one has been around for a while now. However, the parking assist that was just about the sensors which notified you of your proximities are now turning into self-parking devices. They are smart enough to search and find a perfect parking spot and then park there automatically. While it will never replace the human eye and somewhat quicker reflexes, its precision is what makes an elevated parking assist add-on so valuable to any driver.
In-Car Connectivity

Now that we are always connected to the internet, with countless wireless hotspots on each and every corner and our phones sporting a connection speed faster than some home networks, it’s high time we moved onto integrating the internet into our daily routes. The reasons for that would be the advantage of having a Google maps interface without looking at your phone, multiple radio and podcast streams and even Skype, in case you want to have a conference call before you get into the office. You can finally do all that with General Motors’ 4G LTE connectivity, which is quite ahead of the current competition.

Touchscreen Interface

You’ll probably have a harder time finding a car without a touchscreen interface than a completely analogue one, and with a good reason: touchscreens have become the ultimate go-to hub when it comes to cars. At your fingertips you possess the complete control over your car’s air con, music and maps (providing you have the above mentioned in-car connectivity). If your car hasn’t come equipped with one, then perhaps you should look into the newer models which offer film streaming, as well as other interesting apps and modes.

Auto Stop/Start

This one isn’t just a nice upgrade for your metal beauty, but in my opinion the future of automotive industry. What it does is basically turn your car’s engine off entirely as soon as you put your foot off the pedal. That’s it!

Now there are a few pretty good reasons why this is the best long-term solution for any automobile, so let’s take a look at them:

– Your vehicle consumes much less fuel
– Your vehicle is much more environmentally friendly

– Your engine is doing much less work, meaning it ages without getting worn out as easily

Sure, the upgrade is somewhat pricy at the moment and only a few selected vehicles come with it, but rest assured that this technology is expected to be present in every new automobile quite soon.

While there are even more automotive events coming up this year, hopefully this article has given you a good taste of what the future of automotive technology has in store for us.
