Learn to drive in an automatic car
Take lessons and pass your test by learning to drive in an automatic car with one of our driving instructors.
- Problems learning to drive?
- Difficult to change gear & steer at the same time?
- Missing out on gaps in traffic due to stalling?
- Unsure of which gear to select for hazards & when?
- Coordination problems for more mature drivers?
- Need a refresher course?
- Disability making driving a problem?
Then why not try lessons in an automatic car?
Automatic vehicles have no clutch pedal; and all you have to do with the gear selector is select "Drive" before moving away and gears are selected automatically as you drive along.
With the problem of choosing and selecting gears out of the way you will be able to channel your concentration on planning ahead, steering and anticipating what other users might do, generally making driving much easier.
Learning to drive in an automatic car can be so much easier than in a manual car, with most pupils reaching test standard in less time, learning to drive can be a lot less expensive.
A candidate passing their test in an automatic vehicle will, however, be issued with a license restricting them to automatic vehicles only.

" I had a number of driving lessons in a manual car but I always had a problem with gear changes, particularly when braking on the approach to a junction or roundabout. My wife suggested that I try again in an automatic, and I found it so much easier. No gears to worry about, just two pedals - stop and go. And I'm happy to say that I passed my test first time. Cheers "

" I had managed to avoid learning to drive for quiet a long time, I used to say that I didn't drive as I liked cycling and it kept me fit, but to be honest I was petrified of learning to drive, lack of confidence, nerves, bad experiences of being a passenger and as a cyclist bad drivers trying to kill me (or so it felt!) and at being 36, I felt that it was too late for me, old dog and new tricks kept springing to mind. But with the family growing up I realised I needed to give it a go, my wife talked to me about learning on an automatic and so I emailed Blue and they but me in touch with Steve.
The day of my first driving lesson came and after a sleepless night, I got into the car and straight away Steve put me at ease and after two lessons I found myself looking forward to the next lesson. Learning on an automatic was fantastic for me as I was able to concentrate on the driving and not worrying about changing gears, and Steve was a great teacher, with a mixture of encouragement and humour as well as not being afraid to push me, he gave me the confidence to drive and be safe.
I passed the practical test first time and I'm now driving everywhere, for work, for family and for fun. The difference it's made to my family is immense, the children don't get cold and wet going to or coming home from school and my wife can now relax as I drive her around. And as for my bike, well it's sitting in the garage with a puncture and I'm not likely to fix it soon, why should I, I can drive now. "

I wanted to pass on the comment that Steve Martin was a great help to me in passing the driving test in an automatic car in Reading, the first time. As an experienced driver, I did not think I needed driving lessons to pass the driving test. After failing the test I took one two hour lesson from Steve Martin at Blue School of Motoring. He showed me how to correct the driving errors and I passed my driving test in Reading easily the next time. "
