Another great result; this time for Gracie Spencer of Windsor. Gracie passed her practical driving test in Chertsey this morning and on her first attempt. The test was based upon following Satnav with a right hand reverse and Gracie’s fault count was just two driving faults.

What to Expect from Your First Driving Lesson 
Your first driving lesson will be focused on comfort and confidence. Typically, we’ll cover: 
Introduction to car controls and safety checks 
Moving off and stopping safely 
Steering practice and basic turning 
Using mirrors, signals, and observations 
Planning the next steps of your learning journey 
You’ll start in a quiet area to get comfortable before progressing to busier routes as your confidence grows. Most learners take around 40–45 hours of professional tuition, along with private practice, before taking their test.

Here’s some initial information before starting on your learning to drive journey we think you will find useful.

How many lessons to pass

The average learner will need 45* lessons to pass their test, plus private practice with friends or family.

The Theory test

A driving theory test is currently £24 and can be booked at the Gov.uk website.

The Practical driving test

The Government will charge you cost of your practical test dependnig on the time and day of your test. A weekday test is £62. Tests held in the evening, weekend or bank holiday will be £75.

How to save £

Ensure you receive the highest quality tuition by learning with a fully qualified instructor—this helps you progress faster and reduce overall costs. Booking lessons in advance unlocks valuable discounts, including £2 off per hour on Blue lessons. All sessions are 2 hours long, providing ample time to cover new topics and reinforce recent skills.

* This is the average amount of hours as recommended by the DSA. This should include 25-30 hours private practice with friends or family.
