Common Driving Test ‘Show Me, Tell Me’ Questions

Your practical test will include two vehicle safety questions: one ‘Tell Me’ (at the start) and one ‘Show Me’ (while driving). We cover these exhaustively in your lessons.

Tell Me	“Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey.”	The brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Test them as you move off by applying them gently; the car shouldn’t pull to one side.
Show Me	“When it’s safe to do so, show me how you wash and clean the front windscreen.”	Operate the control to wash and wipe the front screen (turn ignition on if necessary).
Tell Me	“Tell me how you’d check the tyres have sufficient tread depth and are safe for the road.”	Ensure there are no cuts or bulges. Legally, the tread must be a minimum of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire circumference.
