5 of the best cars for cheap insurance

Whether you’re a student buying your first car for some independence or are looking for a second vehicle to use for running around town at the weekend, then a car with cheap insurance is definitely a must. Whether you have decided to lease a car and pay a set monthly amount or buy it outright, it’s important you shop around for the best deal you could end up paying a lot more than you need to. The car you choose can also heavily implicate the cost of insurance, you need a vehicle that falls into insurance group 1 or 2, so let’s take a look at five of the cheapest to insure vehicles available:

Renault Twingo

Most people opt for a finance deal when purchasing these cars, which are great for young drivers looking for independence and a vehicle that isn’t going to let them down with all the latest gadgets and gizmos thrown in. The Twingo is a small car, with low fuel emissions which will, more than likely, bring down the cost of insurance because they are mostly used as around town runaround with low mileage.

Seat Mii

Another small car, this vehicle comes in a variety of styles and all are in insurance group 1 except for the sport model. It will remind you of its larger cousins, the Ibiza and Leon, but it’s perfect for parking in tight spots and nipping from A to B – exactly what a student or those looking for a second car need. The Mii is available in 3 and 5 door styles and is surprisingly roomy once you climb inside, with a 251 litre boot and lots of legroom in the back.

Vauxhall Corsa

The latest model of Corsa is essentially a supermini, with all the power of a bigger vehicle compacted into a small shell, but it falls into insurance group 1 so it made the list! There are plenty of big car features to enjoy alongside the 1.0-litre ecoFlex engine, making it the ideal model for those looking for a second vehicle to sit alongside the family hatchback or saloon.

Volkswagen Up!

While it’s a little uninspiring to look at, this small car is one of the cheapest to insure – if you opt for a lower spec model that is. Surprisingly, considering just how small this car is (it’s the same size as a Fiat 500) it does have a 251-litre boot so you should be able to cram plenty of shopping in there at the weekend. The engine is available only in a 1.0-litre capacity, so it’s great for students using the vehicle for driving to seminars at their campus and back home again.

Hyundai i10

Another car that could be likened to a Tardis, this vehicle has that ‘supermini’ feel but is one of the most affordable to run and insure on the market. Available in either a 1.0-litre or 1.2-litre capacity it’s another city runner, perfect for navigating those bends in the multi story or for zipping to work in the morning. The i10 offers low CO2 emissions so its tax is also considerably lower than other cars, which is an added bonus!

When it comes to saving money on your car insurance consider opting for one of these vehicles as well as paying annually instead of monthly.
