Why Your Car Need Clutch Repairs or Replacement?

If you ever had difficulty in shifting gears while driving, you must have assumed that the fault lies in the gearbox. While the gearbox can be a source of issues, usually it is the clutch assembly that gives rise to problems. Knowing the common clutch repairs can be of help when you are out in the road. Here are some common reasons for you to get your clutch repaired.

# The Friction Disk of the Clutch

The function of the friction disk is to transfer the engine’s power to the gearbox. Upon releasing the clutch pedal, the disk comes in contact with the flywheel. This makes it possible for the engine and the clutch to start rotating at equal speeds. On pressing the clutch pedal, the clutch gets removed and the friction released.

There are several components that make up the clutch system. However, it is the friction disk of the clutch that causes the most problems leading to clutch repairs. This disk is connected to the flywheel and suffers a significant degree of wear and tear. This is due to the fact that the disk constantly comes in contact of a flywheel during a drive, leading to wear and tear. After the disk wears out, the clutch can end up slipping. It also fails to rotate with the flywheel at the same speed.

The difference in the rotational speed of the clutch and the engine leads to a major problem. The performance of the car reduces by a dramatic margin. In some cases, it might even become impossible to driv a car over slopes.

# Slippage in the Clutch

This is symptomized in various ways. Your car may rev up unexpectedly without any reason. You may also find it losing revs when accelerating or while climbing slopes. A clutch that slips is one that is engaging the gears in an inconsistent manner. It is also caused by an oil leak. Any oil that leaks onto the clutch plate lubricate it, leading to loss of friction.

• Tremors While Shifting Gears: If you find it difficult to shift gears due to tremors, the clutch may be the source of the issue. You may also experience the shifts to be jarring, accompanied by shakes. The common reason is that the clutch undergoes wear and tear over a period of time. The rough transition will typically take place when the vehicle is put into first gear or reverse.

• Inconsistent Clutch Pedal: Typically, the clutch should have its effect by the time the pedal is a couple of inches away from the floorboard when pressed. However, you may experience a spongy clutch pedal where you have to push it all the way down to the floor. This usually arises because of a worn clutch.

• Burning Smell: After the clutch wears out, an excess level of friction is generated during its operations. The heat from this friction may cause a burning smell. In this case, a mechanic must take a look at the clutch. Make sure that you do this as soon as you detect the smell.

• Shifts with Noise: If you experience jerks or noises while shifting gears, it can be a problem with the clutch. The source is typically contaminants present on the gears or the clutch. Ignoring this problem can reduce the lifespan of the clutch considerably.

One of the issues that require immediate attention is clutch slippage. The clutch must be replaced or the problem will worsen further with each passing day. Go for clutch repairs from a reputable and trained mechanic to avoid problems like these in the future.
